Anti Emo .

Dude ! Stop emo-ing (: !

Here are few steps to keep yourself from emo-ing (:

  1. Accept that You're emo. Realize that you are hurting yourself and be willing to change yourself to become a happier person. Emo won't matter in 10 years, anyway. Being happy will help with your school work, relationships, and your outlook on life.
  2. First, lose your emo look. This will help build your confidence, because everyone at your school won't make fun of you. Your clothes can affect how you act. If you dress in happier colors, then you will feel happier. You can keep your skinny jeans, just get rid of that black t-shirt from hot topic with the red broken heart and polka dots. This also does not mean that you have to wear Hollister clothes, you can still shop at Hot Topic all you want. Just don't go around buying loads of black and skulls. Try some neon pink, blue, white, brown, and green! Sweaters are also nice.
  3. Now that you've gotten rid of your super emo clothes, you need to lose the emo accessories. Go grab a garbage bag and throw out anything with skulls, armsocks, guns, striped knee socks, black nail polish, and black pyramid belts. This is also the time to get rid of your converse with the broken hearts and the name of your ex-girlfriend/boyfriend written all over them. Go buy some checkered vans slip ons or some skater shoes. Those are less emo.
  4. Even if you don't look as emo anymore, you still probably feel sad. Go onto itunes and delete every My Chemical Romance song off of your ipod. If you can't do this, just keep your FAVORITES. It is also strongly suggested that you delete other emo bands that you listen to often. Try to listen to "poppier" bands such as Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, and Fall Out Boy.
  5. Great! Now you're ipod is un-emo. Now it's time to work on your makeup. Black eyeliner is perfectly fine, just try to apply less. NO BLACK EYESHADOW! Wearing LOTS of mascara can be fun, too! You don't have to become tan. There are plenty of good looking, normal people who are pale. Just try to apply a little bit of blush so that you don't look so washed out. Lipgloss can be great on special occasions.
  6. Get rid of your emo hair. You can keep your super long side bangs, just try clipping them to the side with a bobby pin. You can keep your hair dyed black, having black hair doesn't automatically make you emo. Try to put a little more effort into styling your hair. Experiment with gel, hairspray, curling irons and straightners, ect. until you find a cute hairstyle that you like that isn't in your face as much.
  7. Now for the biggest part of them all, become a happy, optimistic person. At the beginning, you might have to fake happiness. Smile often. Since you're probably under confident, try to be the most confident person in the world for a week. You'll be surprised by how great you'll feel. Talk about how great you feel and how happy you are, even if you don't mean it. After faking happiness for a while, you will actually become happy. In class, don't look down at your feet in the corner. Try to look up and maybe talk to some people. Your confidence and happiness will go up SO MUCH by accomplishing this.
  8. If you're still cutting, then try to go to your parents or friends. Sometimes it's easier to talk to your friends, because it can be hard to talk about really personal things with your parents. If you would rather keep cutting a secret, then get rid of all sisscors and knives (or any sharp object) that is is your room. Whenever you have the urge to cut, try to do something else like playing an instrument, watching TV, listening to music, or talking to a friend. There are also hotlines you can call and websites you can go to for help.
  9. Stopping being emo can be long and hard. Perseverance and willpower will get you through. Good Luck!

tips

  • Some of your friends might see right through you when you fake happiness. Try giving them "status updates" every 30 minutes or so, and be truthful. If something's bothering you, tell them that something's bothering you. If you're better than ever, be sure to tell them!
  • If you ever feel that you're sad, and just stop trying to not be emo, tell yourself NO! Everybody has problems! You just have to start dealing with your emotions differently!
  • If you get called emo during your "change", be sure to correct them. Tell them that you used to be sad, but you're changing and becoming a happier person, and that things have been getting better for you!
